I recently started as a Business Analyst at an IT firm, the role was obtained through 6 months of training from industry experts who helped me gain insights into what was analysis all about.
Analysis a very simple word which has such a vast meaning was something that intrigued me. While analysis is something we carry out in our day to day lives for little things be it buying a new smartphone or booking the cheapest flight tickets. That is all that is part of analysis. What is tricky here is that it is always an important aspect of finding the optimum results which is overlooked by many and that being the reason we have many unpleasant experiences. Analysis is what I like to call a helping hand to better decision making and having reasons to look forward to in case of any failures or unwanted experiences. Some may argue that it is an integral part of management but in my defense I consider analysis as looking into future and figuring out if it really looks bright or is it just because you are in a dark place.
You may look at analysis as a simple form of solution gathering but to my eye it stands out as a vast ocean of possibilities that are to be explored. The reason this statement resonates to me is that I never had a clue about myself that I could get into analysis even though it was a part of my everyday life. From finding the best specs for my smartphone, to getting the best tension for my tennis racquet string, it all came from observation and consuming information and then making an informed decision.
The idea for Business Analysis is also poignant on this reason that you need to explore the vast ocean of possibilities before rowing forward to that one island. Exploring the sea is important before finding home on land. This metaphor would resonate to the beach lovers.
